2010 Swindon ThinkSlam – I got to the final!!

What a great night I had on Friday!

I put on a posh frock and scrubbed up (first time in tights for a while felt a bit weird), all ready to “tread the boards” at the Swindon Arts Centre in the first ever ThinkSlam event.

There were 8 of us competing in total; with a heats round followed by a semi-final and then a final. We needed three 3 minute think pieces, one for each round, and I’m really chuffed that I got to present all three of mine.

My knees knocked rather alarmingly during the heats – surprising what adrenaline can do. I spoke about hypocrisy, thinking and literature, and did a nice little talk about how fab Swindon is in the final.

But it was my esteemed colleague John Little, secretary of Swindon Philosophical Society, who pipped me to the trophy in the last, with a thought-provoking joke that brought the house down. Fair play to him!

What a great experience it was – a new event to look forwards to each year on the calendar of this original and surprising town.
