Watch the birdie!

OK, so this glorious weather has had me itching to get out on the golf course – but a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do – and this week’s been all about getting my website up and running.

However – I did get a quick 12 holes in on Monday afternoon, and was chuffed to bits that on the last hole I sank a chip from 20 yards for a birdie three.

It was a magic moment, and in my mind’s eye I can still see the little ball soaring up, landing about 6 feet from the pin, and then rolling right into the hole.

It occurs to me that having photographic recall of this glorious shot will serve me very well in the future. Instead of remembering my bad chips I can now erase that with the mental replay of the one that worked.

And this is a good tip for everything in life. Remembering the successes, the times when things went perfectly and you got the result you were looking for is much more effective than replaying mistakes. Negative self-talk never serves, except to reinforce the things that went wrong.

Visualise your memories of success. Play them back in your mind’s eye in photographic detail. Then keep doing what you did right, secure in the knowledge that if it worked once it’s likely to work again and again.
